The COVID-19 quarantine has me reaching for light, joyful, or mysterious reads so prepare yourself! You’ll see a lot of escapist books from me over the next few weeks!
The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren ($9.99)
Description: Carey Duncan has worked for home remodeling and design gurus Melissa and Rusty Tripp for nearly a decade. A country girl at heart, Carey started in their first store at sixteen, and—more than anyone would suspect—has helped them build an empire. With a new show and a book about to launch, the Tripps are on the verge of superstardom. There’s only one problem: America’s favorite couple can’t stand each other.
James McCann, MIT graduate and engineering genius, was originally hired as a structural engineer, but the job isn’t all he thought it’d be. The last straw? Both he and Carey must go on book tour with the Tripps and keep the wheels from falling off the proverbial bus.
Unfortunately, neither of them is in any position to quit. Carey needs health insurance, and James has been promised the role of a lifetime if he can just keep the couple on track for a few more weeks. While road-tripping with the Tripps up the West Coast, Carey and James vow to work together to keep their bosses’ secrets hidden, and their own jobs secure. But if they stop playing along—and start playing for keeps—they may have the chance to build something beautiful together…
My Take: If you like and are intrigued by Magnolia Company/Chip and Joanna Gaines you’ll like this book. It’s set up as a behind the scenes look of the perfect couple/business partners and some of the trials and challenges they, and their employees face. This is a sweet little romance and honestly I love just about any of the books the Christina Lauren duo writes (I also recently read and loved Twice in a Blue Moon.
Rosie’s Traveling Tea Shop by Rebecca Raisin ($0.99)
Description: A swanky job as a Michelin-Starred Sous Chef, a loving husband and future children scheduled for exactly January 2021. That’s until she comes home one day to find her husband’s pre-packed bag and a confession that he’s had an affair. Heartbroken and devastated, Rosie drowns her sorrows in a glass (or three) of wine, only to discover the following morning that she has spontaneously invested in a bright pink camper van to facilitate her grand plans to travel the country. Now, Rosie is about to embark on the trip of a lifetime, and the chance to change her life! With Poppy, her new-found traveling tea shop in tow, nothing could go wrong, could it…?
My Take: I’ll be honest, I bought this on kindle because it sounded cute, it had good reviews, and was inexpensive. This is a fluffy read that satisfied my need to wander right now. It’s a quick little escapist read with a sequel on it’s way. There are a few loose ends that never get tied up, relationships that seem to disappear, and a few non-sequiturs, but go in with the right expectations and you’ll love it.
Upcoming Reads
This week I plan to read these two books! Again let me know if you have a favorite of your own! I’ll pull together a book list of my past reads as well in time for next week’s post.
Would Like to Meet By Rachel Winters
I’m intrigued by this book - it’s about a female film agency executive trying to get a writer to believe that real-life people can meet the way they do in Rom-Com movies. This seems like it has a lot of promise for some laughs (I mean have you seen how rom-com characters meet?) so I’m hopeful that it’ll be fun! I’ll let you know what I thought next week!
We Met in December By Rosie Curtis
This has been sitting on my To-Read list for awhile. It’s about housemates who meet, feel a connection, and then miss their connection. I’m not entirely sure how I’ll like it but I’ve heard from a number of folks that it’s a good read so I’m giving it a try!
That’s it for this week! What kind of info on books would you like from me?
